Philanthropy Board in Jackson County Overview

PBnJ was created to provide Jackson County high school students with an opportunity to examine and indentify the needs of their communities, to report and evaluate their findings, identify key challenges and needs in their communities and to award grants to groups striving to meet those needs.

Students from each Jackson County high school were invited to be represented on the board.  Members learn about philanthropy, the value of belonging to a community and the importance of giving back to those communities.  In the fall, they conducted community needs assessments in their communities to identify areas of need.  They will make grants to initiatives which address those areas of concern.
